We’ve had another amazing couple of days. We’ve been working out, biking, swimming, making homemade movies, learning new maths topics and eating lots of really good food. As we don’t have to be anywhere else or return back to work this summer, it’s like living in a new world.
We’ve got a few more days down on the south coast of England and then we move on to our next destination! We’ll be getting back into our motorhome for our next trip and heading into the forest for a few days, for an off-grid woodland stay that Forestry England is trialling.
But for now, we’re still making the most of beach life, the hot south coast sun and family time. We’ve made sure to factor in little doses of learning, so we don’t need to restrict ourselves to the academic school year so much going forward. When we set off to Europe in our motorhome in September there will be days when we can’t “Home Educate” (obviously, kids still learn when out at museums, at supermarkets, using money, meeting new people, visiting historic sites etc, but in this sense I mean the “sit down and learn” conventional school approach).
My husband and I have enjoyed beers in the sun, watching the waves at the beach and watching our dog Bramble try to find his most comfortable sleep spot. His new things seems to be roaming around the place looking for a spot, flopping down and then pressing his back or neck up against something, in what we can only describe as a truly uncomfortable position. It’s like he enjoys the pressure on his back, I guess it makes him feel alive!?
He’s also started pawing at us when he wants a cuddle. But he’s really only doing it to my daughter and I – we obviously have a softer touch than the boys!
The kids are so good at bodyboarding now we’ve had tons of beach days and we’ve also loved visiting a few of the local villages and towns. We found a brilliant Oxfam secondhand book shop in Barton-on-Sea and our daughter was caught by the dazzle and beauty of a lovely little independent shoe shop in Barton. Hence the new footwear!
Tomorrow we’re going to go for a longer bike ride/ walk to the crabbing spot near the Lighthouse at Milford on Sea. We’ll grab some ice creams, maybe some drinks and watch the kids try and catch the huge crabs lurking underneath the wooden bridges.
