Our overnight stay at the Notre Dame de Lorette Nécropole was my favourite stay so far. Even though we were overlooking the memorial of War Graves, sleeping next to such a site was heart affirming and significant.
The sleep at the site was quiet and the following morning was highlighted with a gorgeous sunrise on top of the mound. The views when descending the hill were great.
L had done a family tree earlier the previous year, so we planned to visit some relatives who had fallen in the wars. We travelled in the motorhome to Mensil Communal Cemetery Extension and to Pozières Memorial and Cemetery to visit relatives who perished in the First World War. These visits with the children were heartwarming and quite emotional.
We then made our way to Albert velodrome caravan and Motorhome site. The site left a little to be desired. The pitches were quite small for our motorhome. But nonetheless the site had everything we needed. Getting rid of our services and charging up our electricity – plus some battery hair straighteners. Plus, we could get the almighty travel Weber Go-Anywhere barbecue out, which was a favourite purchase of mine and get all our outdoor furniture out.
We all enjoyed some roomy showers, even though our Motorhome does have a shower – it can get a little cramped. We enjoyed a bit of champagne, and feasted on some vegetarian burgers and sausages. We have a humongous wok that we use to blast all our vegetables in. the meal was delicious.
We also finished our family book club book Anne Frank‘s Diary which was very poignant at this point of the journey. Our book club name was decided by the children and is called the ‘Bespectacled Bookworm Book Club’.
