Today we visited the beautiful town of Christchurch, on the south coast of the UK. We’ve been here before but enjoy coming back. We parked at the Christchurch Priory car park, right next to the Christchurch Priory Church. It was very busy so took a few laps to get a parking space.
Once we’d parked, paid and got our bags and the dog, Bramble, ready, we made our way to the graveyard at the church. Although the prolonged hot weather here in the UK has killed off the lush green of the British grass, it’s still a beautiful churchyard and pretty walking spot for the locals and tourists.
We played some games in one of the little off-shoot gardens and Bramble loved sniffing all the different plants (and the other doggie scents).
Then we made our way to the Norman ruins, a cool spot to visit with the kids! You climb the steps to the top and get to explore the small but pretty ruin of a Norman stronghold. The views here are gorgeous too! You can look back to the Priory Church as well as the rooftops of the town in the opposite direction.
Once the kids and Bramble had got their fill, we slowly walked into town, window shopping as we went, past the small independent shops. After checking out a few shops and stocking up on some more stationery (it might be becoming a family problem now…) we dropped into a cafe to refuel with tea, frappes and cakes. Reading our books with treats is one of our favourite ways to pass our time.
There is a little dinosaur trail here for kids to follow/ discover a collection of dinosaur statues, so we gave the triceratops a pat before heading off to pick up some essentials that we need for the next stage of your summer tour (the motorhome segment!).
A final walk back to the car park at the end of our visit and we made our way through to the church and the graveyard. It was the perfect amount of exercise for Bramble, and not too hot, as we’re taking it easy for him (now we know that age really is catching up on him!). We saw lots of dogs in dog strollers today, so have some ideas on which kind of pushchair we want for him now.
As we’re leaving in 2 days we are planning on a final beach day tomorrow (to bodyboard, swim, sunbathe and drinks some cold ones!) before we hit the road.
